The General Iftaa' Department will look for the crescent moon at sunset on Thursday, April 23, meaning that the fasting month of Ramadan will begin either Friday or Saturday, the Kingdom’s grand mufti, Sheikh Abdul Karim Khasawneh, said today.

"A crescent moon sighting ceremony will be conducted after Thursday’s sunset with a limited number of attendees, in line with government’s measures to limit the spread of the coronavirus" he added.

If the sighting is confirmed, Muslims in Jordan will start fasting on Friday, as the crescent marks the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan.
